Overview

Labs Terminal currently consists of two tools: Markets and Insiders.

On a broad level, our Markets tool allows you to identify the sportsbooks offering the lowest hold (the implied percentage taken on both sides of a game) in each game and bet type. You'll also be able to create synthetic holds by combining the best odds being offered on on one side of the game with the best odds being offered on the opposite side of the game across the sportsbook we track.

Insiders is your hub for NBA news and betting information. Our NBA team will not only provide fast and accurate news from around the league, we'll also show you how to leverage that information when placing your bets each day.

In this start-up guide, we'll show you how to best utilize the powerful tools and features that are included with your premium subscription.

Markets

The purpose of our Markets tool is to help you track line movement in real time while identifying the lowest holds available in the market. By default, when you load Markets, you will see a view containing all active sports. You may also view any of the active sports individually via the site navigation:

sportsnav.png
Within the main grid section of the page, you will find the current odds from each of our supported U.S. sportsbooks. When a table cell is outlined by a red border, that indicates that the line has recently moved. Clicking on any of the table cells will take you directly to the website of the sportsbook. To the left of the individual sportsbook columns are two columns labeled Best Available and Consensus NJ:

markets-columns.png

Consensus NJ: This column creates a composite line by aggregating all of the individual sportsbooks together. The Consensus NJ column represents the market average.

Best Available: The Best Available column pairs the sportsbook offering the most favorable odds on the home team with the sportsbook offering the most favorable odds on the away team to create a synthetic hold that is lower than the hold offered by any individual sportsbook. In the above example, BetMGM’s -10.5, -120 line is the most favorable spread being offered on the Clippers, while SugarHouse’s +12, -109 line is the most favorable spread being offered on the Warriors across the market. While the lowest individual hold offered by any sportsbook on this game is around 4.3%, the synthetic hold using BetMGM and SugarHouse is only 1.2%. The hold values are color coded where a dark green color highlights a hold below 2.0%.

Why does this matter? The hold represents the amount of money that the sportsbook is taking out of each bet.  A 4.3% hold means the sportsbook is taking out 4.3% from your bet, while a 1.2% hold means the sportsbook is taking out only 1.2% from your bet. By consistently betting into the lowest possible holds, you will give yourself a much better chance to profit over the long haul.

By default, you will be looking at full-game spread bets across all sports when you first load Markets. It is possible to switch to a Moneyline or Over/Under view, or from a full game view to a half or quarter view via these drop-down menus found in the top right corner:

Player Analysis

The Player Analysis page is our hub of real-time NBA information within Labs Terminal. Here, you will find our current bet recommendations, key news to watch on today’s slate, and a timeline filled with the most up-to-date news.

Phan Bets

In the top left corner of Player Analysis, you will see a section labeled Phan Bets. Here, you will see any bets that Justin Phan has placed on today’s slate. There are four columns to note:

mceclip0.png
Original Bet: Shows the side and line as of the time Justin Phan placed his bet.  This is not the current line and it is possible that the line may have moved since the bet was placed.

Bet To: This shows the line that Justin would bet the side to. For example, looking at the first bet for OKC ML, Justin originally placed his bet at OKC -145. The Bet To column indicates that Justin would still bet this side to OKC -164.

Best Price: This column shows the sportsbook offering the best price on the side currently. Looking at the same OKC ML bet, SugarHouse is currently offering the most favorable line of OKC -148. Clicking on this table cell will bring you directly to SugarHouse's website.

Other Prices: These columns display the prices being offered at other sportsbooks around the industry. Above, you'll find the lines available at PointsBet and FanDuel. Clicking on these table cells will bring you directly to the sportsbook's website.

Key News to Watch

In the Key News section, we list the current statuses of the most relevant injury situations on today’s slate. The “Will he play?” column represents our best estimation of that player’s chances of suiting up for tonight’s game and that status will update in real time. Clicking on a player’s name in the Player column will bring up the latest news item available for that player.

Player News

Below the Phan Bets and Key News sections, you will find a timeline filled with the latest news. In the heading, we list the player’s status, latest news item, and the best odds on the game’s Spread, Moneyline, the Total.

To the right, you will notice additional information containing the player’s status, ‘View Line History’, and ‘Player Props’.

confirmed.png

Status:

  • Confirmed: We have confirmed that this player is playing tonight.
  • Out: This player has been officially ruled out of tonight's game.
  • Questionable: Our projected odds of this player playing tonight.

View History:

Here, you will see the Spread history juxtaposed with any injury news that has been released. This is helpful to see how the line reacts in response to certain news. In the example below, around the same time that Marc Gasol and Fred VanVleet were ruled out, Toronto fell from +3.5 to +4 and eventually +4.5.

Clicking on the blue arrow to the left of the player’s name will open a section containing Player Props, Projected Starting Lineups, and Game Odds.

Player Props:

 playerprops.png

Here, you will find our favorite player props to bet in this game. Star ratings are calculated by comparing the implied odds offered at the sportbook to our projection for that player. If this section is blank, it means that either A.) Props for this game have not yet been released or B.) Props have been released, but we have not identified any player props that rank highly enough for display.

Projected Starting Lineup

 projlineup.png

The next section you’ll see shows our projected starting lineup for the player’s team, along with our full statistical projections for each player. These values will update throughout the day.

Game Odds

gameodds.png

Finally, you will see a section showing the odds from each sportsbook offering the game’s Spread, Moneyline, and Total. Clicking on any of the table cells from this section will take you directly to that sportsbook’s website.

NBA Lineups Page

Starting Lineups

The NBA Lineups page provides a high level overview of the day’s NBA action. Here, you will find projected and conditional starting lineups for each team, which are updated in real-time by our team of NBA experts. Above each starting five, we will note whether the lineup is projected, confirmed, or conditional.

1.) Projected Lineups

projlineups.png

When a lineup is ‘projected’, it means that the team has not yet confirmed tonight’s starting five and the lineup you see is a projection based on recent lineup trends and injury news.

 2.) Conditional Lineups

In the lineup above, note that Trae Young is currently questionable to play. By clicking on the circled arrow icon next to his name, you will see our projected lineup for Atlanta in the event that Young does not play tonight.

ifyoungsits.png

After clicking on that icon, you’ll notice that Young is replaced by Jeff Teague in the conditional starting lineup. The ‘Projected Lineup’ heading is replaced by a heading that reads, 'If Young Sits,' indicating that you are currently viewing a conditional lineup. The ‘Proj Min’, or Projected Minutes, column is updated to show how many minutes we would project Atlanta’s starters to play if Young is ruled out. To revert back to the default lineup, simply click on the icon to the right of 'If Young Sits' in the header.

3.) Confirmed Lineups

Lineups are confirmed once we’ve received official word from a team shortly before tipoff. When a lineup has been confirmed, the ‘Projected Lineup’ banner will be updated to ‘Confirmed Lineup’.

 Game Odds

Above the starting lineup, we show the team’s implied total. This is calculated based on consensus odds using the game total and spread.

hawksodds.png

Below that, you’ll find a Best Odds section displaying the book offering the most favorable Spread, Moneyline, and Total lines on the team you’re looking at. Clicking on any of the table cells here will take you directly to the sportsbook’s website.

Calendar

It is possible to view tomorrow’s projected lineups by clicking on the calendar icon located in the top-right corner of the page and selecting tomorrow’s date:
